Do you love intramural sports? Do you love outdoor activities? Do you just want to meet new people? Well take a look at the newly revamped Recreational Sports program NUSG is offering this year. The “Adventure Recreation” section of this program is run by Abbie Kruse and Shelby Selvidge and the Intramural Sports section is run by Andrew Bonesteel and Hunter Madich.
What Should I Expect?
“Expect more opportunities to get involved in both sports on campus, as well as a wide range of opportunities off campus in the surrounding communities,” said Bonesteel when asked about what students can expect from the program. He noted that his teammates were brainstorming many events and activities before students arrived on campus this fall.
Off Campus Adventures?
Selvidge has a passion for the outdoors and has been suggesting events such as rock climbing and hiking. Kruse, her co-coordinator, is interested in Saturday events as well which will allow students to branch out of the normal routine. With the old system, students didn’t have the same opportunities for outdoor activity that they will this year.
A new and much desired change in the intramural section of Rec Sports is the addition of women’s teams. A women’s soccer intramural has been recently discussed. In motion currently is the start of the Flag Football pre-season games. These games start September 7, so feel free to learn the game if you are new, polish up if you are a returner, or just cheer on your team!
Why Get Involved?
The NUSG team, including the Recreational and Adventure Sports Coordinators believe that participation in events strengthens community. They want to create opportunities for students to be active together, meet new friends, and grow closer to those they already know. Rec Sports are a way for students to escape the stress of student life in a fun and active way. The team does acknowledge that this new program is truly what students make of it. They encourage all students to get involved, make suggestions, and try something new. Your ideas and participation and participation are welcome.
